Sauvignon Blanc, O'Neel Ranch, Russian River Valley
This
wine is from a vineyard along the Santa Rosa Creek a mile west of town.
It is pressed whole-cluster and fermented in used French oak barrels. The finished
wine is complex with subtle hay, melon and pear notes. It is relatively
low in alcohol and retains the crisp acidity of the
cool-climate site. It's perfect with oysters on the half shell or fish on the grill. >>read more>>

Chardonnay, Sangiacomo Vineyards, Carneros This
wine is from blocks in the Sangiacomo family's Vella Ranch and Green
Acres-Hill vineyards, both planted to old Wente selection budwood. The
vineyard blocks are separated by a small creek and both have very
well-drained rocky soils. It was barrel-fermented with native
yeasts in Burgundian barrels and completed malolactic fermentation on stirred lees. The 2006 was chosen as one of the year's best by Wine & Spirits magazine. The 2007 is on the list of the most popular wines at one of our best retailers. The 2008, from a relatively low-yield, ripe vintage is now released. >>read more>>

Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley I started making wine in 1980 at a little winery in
the Russian River Valley and almost all we made was Pinot Noir. We
didn't have fruit of the quality available these days though. Only a
rumor in those days were the Dijon
clones, the diverse collection of individual Pinot Noir genotypes that
has supplanted the inferior parts of the California Pinot gene pool.
Vast improvements in viticulture have also contributed to radically improved fruit. The
resulting wines had to get better, even if huge advances in crush
equipment, barrels and winemaking methods hadn't happened. >>read more>>

Syrah, Unti Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley I met the Unti family when I made the wine at Stonestreet in Alexander Valley and worked with Mick Unti. His dad, George, was growing grapes in Dry Creek Valley, chasing dreams of Italy and the Rhone. Starting in the late 90s I bought a little bit of the fruit from the original Durell clone Syrah planting and made some tasty wines from them. A few tons of Syrah were available when I set out
on my own and George was nice enough to sell them to me. I don't think overt new oak is
appropriate for this grape variety that has so much of its own flavor,
so it is aged in mostly used French oak barrels to keep the focus on
the complex spice, berry and roast meat varietal character. This wine
is subtle, balanced and delicious. It has the stuffing to age nicely
for years. >>read more>>
